How to Upload your Solidworks files to the Vuframe Studio

Collect all necessary files (SLDASM and SLDPRT) for your 3D model in one folder. The foldername must contain the name of your Master SLDASM file (the file your product complete assembly is contained in). You can add suffixes as date of export to your master file name, but it has to contain the name of the Folder. If there are two or more SLDASM files containing the folder name, the Vuframe® Studio will try to guess which file is the correct one and will choose the biggest file.
eg.: Folder Name = "Your-CAD-Product." Name of the complete assembly = "Your-CAD-Product-2020-12-03-032.SLDASM"
Use the Zip utility of your operating system or use a tool like 7zip to compress your files before uploading them to the Vuframe® Studio.
1.: Navigate to the SmartVu® Page
2.: If there are already SmartVu's® created in your space, click on the "+ SmartVu®" button on the top left. If you haven't create a SmartVu® yet, do so by clicking on "Create From 3D or CAD file" button in the middle of your screen and select the second button in the popup that will appear on your screen.
3.: Choose the file type you want to upload, by selecting "CAD Files" on the top of the popup.
4.: Choose the file format by clicking on the Solidworks tile
Press the Upload files button on the bottom right of the popup.
5.: Drag and Drop one or more prepared Zip-files, from your file browser (i.e. Windows Explorer or MacOS Finder) into the area in the center or click on it to open a file dialog.
6.: Processing starts after the upload is finished and the popup will close automatically. After the processing is finished the "Pending" status in the SmartVu® tile will disappear and your SmartVu® is ready to be edited. The processing is usually done in round about 5 minutes, more complex files can take up to 15 minutes.
There is another state that reads "Failed", this will happen if the Vuframe® Studio wasn't able to process correctly. Read more about this in the Troubleshooting section below
1.: Navigate to the Assets & Media Section using the side menu.
2.: If you do not have a folder yet, create one by using the "+ Create Folder" button to do so. You can store multiple CAD Files in such a folder but note that it can get messy if you have a huge number of files in on folder. So good naming and file sorting can save a lot of time.
3.: After entering a name and clicking on the "Create" button on the bottom left of the popup you will enter the folder immediatly. Click on one of the "upload Files" button to open the Upload dialog box. Continue as in the steps 3 to 5 in the section "Uploading your data by creating a new SmartVu®". After the Upload is finished the processing will start. The processing is usually done in round about 5 minutes, more complex files can take up to 15 minutes.
4.: Since no SmartVu® is created by uploading your files this way, the status of you model is displayed differently. You can unfold the processing section and if your file failed to upload, you can click on "Remove Failed Items" on the top right. To see why your file failed processing check the Troubleshooting section below.
If the processing was successful the 3D data will appear as a tile and is now ready to be linked in a SmartVu®.
The "Failed" status can appear for different reason.
the processing wasn't able to find a *.SLDASM in the Zip-file
check if the file or folder was named according the scheme mentioned in the Prepare section on top of the page
there was no SLDASM in the Zip-file
My model is missing parts
there is an encoding error when compressing your folder on MacOS and the file names of sub-assembly (SLDASM) or SLDPRT contain "Umlaute" (such as ä, ü, ö ) those can cause trouble and the subassemblies and parts can't be found and are missing in your processed model.
